In celebration of all the beautiful nurturing woman who read my blog, I want to share with you the famous poem “Time Tested Beauty Tips” written by Sam Levenson. Many people believe that Audrey Hepburn wrote the poem as it was her favorite and she recited it often.
I pulled out these lines about a helping hand which I think are appropriate for all you nurturing women:
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand,
you’ll find one at the end of your arm.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands,
one for helping yourself,
the other for helping others.
Aren’t these words so true? To me, these words also mean we need to take care of ourselves first so we can take care of others in our life. Don’t forget that. Take time to care for yourself!
Sometimes you will see that at the end of this poem additional lines have been added. These lines are actually from the poem “The Beauty of a Woman” which no one is sure who wrote. It has been attributed to Sam, Audrey and even Maya Angelou. The poem talks about what makes a woman beautiful. I especially like the ending words.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
the passion that she shows,
and the beauty of a woman
with passing years only grows!
Our beauty only grows as we get older. Remember this!
So, this weekend, in celebration of being a strong nurturing woman, do something just for you. Take 20 minutes to just relax – make a nice warm bath, pour yourself a cup of tea or glass of wine. Take the time to really read these two poems – read the words slowly and think about them, believe them. Be thankful for all you have and celebrate you!
