Usually I’m writing about your Style Personality and how important it is to wear clothing that shows your personality. Today I’m writing about your personality type which is what your Style Personality is based on.
Do you ever wonder why you behave the way you do or why you rely on your heart to make decisions while your partner relies on their head? Your personality type describes how you might likely behave in certain situations or how you make decisions. One of the well-known personality traits is whether you are introverted or extroverted. Another trait is around how you make decisions – do you rely on data or do you rely on feelings?
That said, it is important to bear in mind that regardless of which type we are, our personality is just one aspect of many – our actions are also influenced by our environment and our experiences.
I’m sure most of you have taken a personality test, such as Myers Briggs, at some point in your life. I can’t count the many times I’ve taken various tests over my career and every time I take one it has been enlightening.
Personality tests are usually administered when you are undergoing some sort of evaluation or participating in a team. The test is a series of questions with the answers resulting in a certain personality type. If you know a person’s personality type, you can better understand why they work the way they do or how they make decisions.
About a year ago, I stumbled upon such a personality test called 16 Personalities. A friend had told me she had taken it and it was such a true reflection of her. Since it was free, I decided I didn’t have anything to lose and I took it.
What I really liked about this test is that the result not only gives you the strengths and weaknesses of your personality, it also describes you with respect to different roles such as your career, workplace habits, as a parent, a friend, or a romantic partner.
I took the test and then other members of my family took the test and we sent each other our results. It was not only fascinating, but also fun! It provides insight into why you act the way you do and also insight into how you can relate better to others. It also helps answer that question we all ask “Why does he always do it that way??”
If you have a few minutes, 12 to be exact, take the test and get others in your family or work team to also take it. Share the results! Don’t forget – every personality has strengths and weaknesses so no personality is better than another.
Just in the spirit of sharing I am a Protagonist (ENFJ). If you take the test, let me know what type you are!
