How to Dress the Hourglass Body Type
A reader recently reminded me that it’s been quite some time since I last wrote about dressing your body type. Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to finish the series on body types.
If you missed some of the past articles then
Today I’m focusing on the hourglass body type. Remember – these are only styling tips. No matter what you wear – you need to choose clothing that makes you feel good and boosts your confidence.
Hourglass Body Type
The hourglass body type is considered by many to be the most desirable body shape. This shape has the best proportions – with upper and lower half approximately the same, along with a defined waist.
You are an hourglass if your measurements show these results:
- Shoulders & hips are a similar measurement
- Wears roughly the same size on top and bottom
- Clearly defined waist and curvaceous
- Has an average to full bust
- Same as slender but also has a generous bust & full hips
- Clearly visible shorter waist
- Has generous thighs & bottom
If you are an hourglass, the most important style tip is to make the most of your fabulous figure and emphasize your feminine curves. You also want to make sure that you don’t wear styles that bring imbalance to your shape – either make your top bigger than your bottom or vice versa. Use your waist as a focal point. Belts are great. Here are the simple guidelines.
Avoid clothes that…
- Have no shape or hide your curves
- Skirts that are too full as they bring imbalance…unless you have on a top that needs to be balanced out
- Mismatched proportions on the top and bottom halves
Here are some styles that are perfect for the hourglass.
Highlight What Makes You Feel Confident & Beautiful
The hourglass body type is the most desirable body shape as it is has the best proportions. This is the silhouette personal stylists strive to create on their models. Having the curves in the right places indicates femininity and is appealing (sells better) to the eye. Famous hourglass shapes are Halle Berry, Salma Hayek, and Sofia Vergara. I would say the most famous hourglass of all time is Marilyn Monroe.
Remember, I have provided you a few styling tips – not hard fast rules. The most important tip I can give is to always wear clothes that make you feel good and that send the messages you want sent. You will be the most beautiful when you feel good on the inside and wear your clothes with confidence!
