I had no problem finding examples of the bomber jacket as it seems to be the jacket of the moment. I did limit my selection to only ten choices. B,efore I show my picks I want to give a little history of the jacket.
History of the Bomber Jacket
During early flight and throughout World War I, pilots rode in open cockpits. The pilots wore anything they could to stay warm. In 1917, the U.S. Army began distributing heavy-duty leather flight jackets with high wraparound collars, zipper closures with wind flaps, and snug cuffs and waists. Some of the jackets had fringe and were lined with fur. This was the beginning of the American bomber jacket (source here).
During the mid 50s the bomber was featured in movies and integrated into civilian lifestyle. Remember Marlon Brando in Streetcar Named Desire? I have to show the photo!
The jacket then became more popular through the 70s and 80s and became trendy. Today, the bomber jacket is frequently worn by celebrities such as Kanye West and is seen frequently on the catwalk.
