It’s been several weeks since I’ve written a post. I returned from visiting my family in California and have been consumed with my volunteer work. I feel like I can breathe now and I need to write today on “Unlimited Attitude”.
Unlimited Attitude – What Does This Mean?
This all started when I got dressed this morning and decided today was a day to wear a recent tshirt purchase from one of my favorite woman-owned businesses, Jacket Society. Check out her website!
I bought the tshirt because I knew the fabric would be soft and I liked the design – the phrase “Unlimited Attitude” with a picture of a woman and some rhinestone studs! I wanted to wear it today as it was finally a nice day here in Rhode Island!
Then I thought to myself – what does “unlimited attitude” mean? My first thought was of someone who always had an “attitude” towards any situation. You know, sort of a badass. Then, I thought, no, it most likely means someone who has unboundless energy. I was thinking perhaps “attitude” was related to “energy”. Then I thought maybe it’s someone who always has a very positive attitude. Yes, that’s seemed more like it.
Then I looked at the bottom of the tshirt and saw these words
THE EASY WAY TO UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING
After seeing this, I knew there was more to this phrase “unlimited attitude” than what I was thinking! I had to do some research – I wanted to know more. I started googling…
Little Did I Know…
Little did I know that “unlimited attitude” has to do with the teachings of Buddha.
The brahma-viharas, or “sublime attitudes” are the Buddha’s primary heart teachings – the ones that connect most directly with our desire for true happiness. The Brahmas are gods who live in the higher heavens, living in an attitude of unlimited goodwill, unlimited compassion, unlimited empathetic joy, and unlimited equanimity. These “unlimited attitudes” can be developed from the more limited versions of these emotions that we experience. It may not be difficult to feel goodwill or compassion to our friends but more difficult to feel these attitudes toward all people. If you want to know more, try this article The Sublime Attitudes.
So now I finally understand the true meaning of the words on my tshirt:
Here is a picture of Nora modeling the tshirt and how you can purchase.
